Hey y’all! Today I’m going to show you a fun, girly DIY project, inspired by these sunglasses:
I love the ’70s shape of these shades. But I’m not in love with the yellowing white color. I bought them forever ago, so long I can’t remember where I got them! I *think* they were for a Halloween costume that never came to fruition. They’ve been sitting in my drawer for years.
I’ve been wanting to do something fun to them for a while now, and Pinterest gave me the perfect pinspiration…pink sunnies!

This is a very easy project, but patience is the #1 ingredient you need and unfortunately I am about the least patient person ever. It takes about 3 days to complete this project because there is a lot of waiting between coats of paint. True Story: we have an end table in our living room that my kids call the “sticky table” because I spray painted it and couldn’t wait to bring it inside and adore it. I put the lamp on it and it’s now permanently stuck there.
Instructions:
1. Pop out the lenses and unscrew the hinges on the ear pieces. ***PRO TIP*** If you have trouble popping the lenses out, soak the glasses in hot water for 5 minutes and then try. The plastic will expand, allowing the lenses to pop out. After you disassemble the glasses wipe them down with a damp cloth.
2. Make sure the glasses are completely dry, then spray paint. I like to do a coat, wait 2 hours, turn the glasses over and do another coat. It only took 2 coats for me because I used Valspar primer and paint in one. I love Valspar (and they don’t pay me to say that…although I wouldn’t be opposed to it! Hear that Valspar?!) ***PRO TIP*** After each coat of spray paint stick a tooth pick in the screw hole so that paint doesn’t build up.
3. Once the spray paint is completely dry (wait overnight to be sure) spray on the glitter. I did 2 coats and I liked the results, but you may want to do more or less depending on your taste.
4. Once the glitter is completely dry and no longer tacky (I would wait overnight) spray a coat of acrylic sealant.
5. Once the sealant is dry (again, overnight is best) put the glasses back together. If you had to soak them in hot water to get the lenses out you will have to soak them again to get them to go back in. Hot water for 5 minutes.
That’s it! Because you used the sealant the glitter won’t come off all over everything. I love my new glasses and I think it’s a great way to put some glitter into your life!
