Hey y’all! Today I’m going to show you how to make a simple bow top sweater.
Before we begin, let’s take a look at the before picture:
Sad. This sweater was on clearance a couple of years ago at Old Navy and I bought it…still have never worn it in public. It’s not awful, just boxy and boring! It needed a makeover. (To be honest, I almost stole one of my hubby’s cashmere sweaters for this project. I think it would be totally cute to do to a men’s sweater. Just don’t blame me when he notices it’s missing!)
First a larger neck opening.
Then cut a slit in the shoulder seam and a few inches down the sleeve.
Then cut out the bow pieces. I used a pair of tired old yoga pants!
Then simply fold your neckline and shoulder slits under 1/2 inch, pin, and use a double needle to stitch it down. If you’re worried about your sweater unraveling you can fray check.
Look how nice that looks!
The only thing left to do is sew on the bow! I used the double needle to sew the knit strips one knit strip to each side of the neckline. All done!
And for you ladies who are like to keep it fun but modest, how fun would it be to wear an animal print shirt underneath and just have a pop of pattern there?
