Stained glass cookie recipe

When I was a kid, one of my favorite treats to make were stained glass cookies.
I haven’t made them in years…but I saw a picture of some on pinterest and it made me want to make them again.
This is such a fun and easy treat and while I made these for my kids for Valentines day you could do them for Easter too :)
Just start with your favorite sugar cookie recipe.
I actually cheated and just used the Betty Crocker mix.
You just have to add butter and an egg, and it’s ready to go.
No “refrigerate overnight” or anything like that…just mix it up and start rolling it out.
Then, crush up some jolly ranchers in bags.
They don’t even have to be crushed up very well.  Just enough so the pieces are a little smaller.
Then cut out your shapes with cookie cutters.
You need to cut the center out too to make the stained glass window.
I used the back of a frosting tip since it was round and the right size.
You could also use a smaller cookie cutter to cut out the center.
Once you cut out your shape and your center, place the cookie on your cookie sheet.
Then fill the center with candy in whatever color you want.
My kids had a blast with this!
Then just bake according to your recipe instructions.
The jolly ranchers start to melt right away so my kids stood by the oven to watch the magic happen.

When you take them out of the oven, it’s important to let them cool completely before trying to remove them.  If you take them off while they are still hot, the candy will be sticky instead of hard.
And that’s it!  Super-easy and so much fun!
Hope everyone had a Happy Valentine’s Day and is gearing up for EASTER!
