life lessons from a Disney movie?!

Yes you read that right. I have learned some great life lessons all from a PIXAR movie.

Sounds funny huh? But it’s true. So a while back, I took my nephews to go see Monsters University when it came out in theaters and although I am normally entertained and enjoy Disney movies it’s not much more than that – entertainment, especially for the kids. But I was pleasantly surprised with the messages this movie portrayed. Not only for the kids but myself as well.

So here we go – 5 life lessons I learned from Monsters University Never give up – work hard for your dreams!

Dream Big

Stay Focused

Have Integrity

It’s Okay to Fail

Work Hard

While I had my own dreams to open an online clothing boutique, I was scared. I was scared of failing, of putting the money into it, the work it would take, of criticism. So I continually made excuses and “reasons” to not open up the store. But all that was doing was hurting ME and my goals and dreams for my future! As funny as it sounds if Mike and Sully can work hard to achieve their dream of being “scarers” at Monsters, inc. I SURELY could achieve my dreams and work hard to make them happen. right?

everydream begins somewhere

No matter what you’ve planned, life can always take you in unexpected directions. But even if you have to take the path less traveled, that doesn’t mean your goals are out of reach. It takes perseverance and never giving up. Just believe in yourself! This took time for me to achieve but the more confidence I had and the more I thought “if not now, when?” the more I pushed myself to make my dreams a reality. And I am proud to say my dream will be launching by the 15th of October! Ya! And I hope that by pursing my dreams that my nephews will see that they can do ANYTHING as long as they work hard and dream big – they can achieve any goal or dream they want. It’s so important nowadays for kids to have positive influences to know that they can do anything if they work hard and I was so happy it came in the form of a Pixar Movie ;)

Then we moved to a different state and I was able to quit my job and stay home with our daughter. I love it! It meant so much to me to have my mom home when I was growing up, and I wanted the same for my daughter. So now we have it!

I especially like the message that it’s okay to fail. Many years ago a friend and I opened a gift shop. Like many new entrepreneurs we didn’t know all the questions we should ask and although we were doing well our location went through some major changes and as a result our business failed. I was devastated, but I learned lessons that I was able to use for the future. Every lesson learned is a stepping stone for the future.
